The New Food Pyramid Points Back to the Farm

Take a closer look at the updated food pyramid and you’ll notice something familiar. The foods being emphasized are the same ones farm families have relied on for generations.
Protein and traditional fats. Real vegetables and fruits. Fewer refined and ultra-processed foods.
That means much of what’s now being recommended can be sourced farm-direct. At JBW, that includes our pasture-raised beef and pork, eggs, dairy, tallow, and baked goods made with simple ingredients, food raised with stewardship in mind and meant to nourish well.
For most of history, folks didn’t need a chart or a committee to tell them how to eat.
They ate what God provided through good land, good animals, and hard work. Meat from animals raised close to home. Milk, butter, and natural fats. Vegetables pulled from the soil. Fruit in season. Food that made sense, food you could recognize, food that nourished bodies built for real work.
Somewhere along the way, that wisdom got buried. We were told to fear traditional fats, to build our meals on refined grains, and to trust foods with ingredient lists that read more like chemistry than cooking.
And yet, health didn’t improve.
Lately, though, we’re seeing a shift. The conversation is changing. Even official dietary guidance is starting to circle back to what farm families have known all along: real food matters.
Not trends. Not powders. Not shortcuts.
Real food, raised well.
Eating the Way God Intended
At JBW Farm, we don’t see food as fuel alone. Food is part of stewardship. How we raise animals, how we treat the land, and how we nourish our families are all connected.
When food is raised the way God designed, animals on pasture, soils cared for, ingredients kept simple, it does what it was meant to do: strengthen the body and sustain life.
That’s why we’re willing to talk about the hard stuff, nutrition, health, skin issues, and chronic problems people have been told to just “live with.” We believe these conversations matter, and we want to have them with you, not talk at you.
Questions, thoughts, and even disagreements are welcome here. This isn’t about being right, it’s about discovering what truly works for you through the food God provides.
God bless,
The JBW Farm Family
A Word on Love
“Let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”
— 1 John 3:18 (KJV)
Good food, good stewardship, and good health all start in the same place: love. Love for God, love for people, and love for the land He gave us to tend.
We’re grateful to walk that road with you.
